Gold Copper

what in tap water would cause sterling silver to “stain” to a gold color?
took a shower wearing my sterling silver chain and afterward noticed its color changed to a gold/copper appearance. I know the water here is from well on site and reportedly has high sulphur content, but cannot figure this out.
Sulphur would do it, by forming silver sulphide. That is the main component in the tarnish coating on most silver items.
To clean it, fill a basin with warm water, add some washing soda and some scrunched-up balls of tinfoil and the chain. Leave to soak for a few minutes and rinse with clean water.
